MGSSBF was founded in 2010 primarily as a vehicle for educating the business community in sustainability matters: an information source and a force for merging environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and economic strength.  It was led first by Becky Kliss, then president of Green Connection Inc. and most recently, circular economy boutique Re*Imagine.  A tireless advocate for sustainability in the region, Kliss is responsible for introducing sustainability to countless local organizations and professionals.  She recognized a need for a local resource, inspired by collaborative sustainability initiatives she had seen in other communities.  She was joined by seven other local organizations interested in forwarding the idea.

It quickly grew to nearly 100 members with diverse geographic representation, mix of interests, and enthusiasm for sustainability efforts.  It has offered approximately 150 professional development events in its history, serving as the region’s leading resource for sustainability and sustainable business.
