Michigan’s Great Southwest Sustainable Business Forum will host a luncheon forum & tour of the Indiana Michigan Power Cook Energy Information Center for its June Forum on Wednesday, June 19.
The program will feature a presentation from Roger DePoy, Energy Efficiency & Consumer Program Coordinator for Indiana Michigan Power (IMP). Roger has nearly 40 years of experience in managing large facilities such as shopping malls and hospitals, and has concentrated on reducing energy consumption through such measures as lighting retrofits and mechanical upgrades. Roger has a B.A. from Albion College, and is a Certified Energy Manager. Roger will provide an overview of IMP’s energy efficiency programs, and discuss the positive effects that IMP has had in reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Also included in the program will be a tour of the Cook Energy Information Center, which offers an interactive energy experience that allows guests to Discover the Nature of Power.
Ashlie Guyberson, Senior Communications Specialist at the Cook Plant, will guide the tour of the Information Center. She is responsible for public relations including educational outreach as well as internal communications. The centerpiece of the center is a 26-foot 3D rotating model of the plant that shows the intricate workings of DC Cook nuclear power plant. Other features of the information center include: an interactive electricity generation station; exploration of transmission and distribution and how electricity travels to the homes and businesses that use it; and an interactive game visualizing how chain reactions are important in nuclear power production.
